Hybrid Home Air Conditioner FAQs

Keeping your home cool in the summer is one of the conveniences afforded by modern access to electricity and cooling technology. Thankfully, if you want your house to be cool in spite of the summer heat, you have multiple options of air conditioning systems to choose from for your house. One of those options, and perhaps one of the most modern, is a hybrid air conditioning system. Even though these ACs are really efficient and have a lot of advantages, many homeowners do not know much about them. Take a peek at a few of the most common questions about hybrid air conditioning systems and the answers you should know.

What exactly is a hybrid air conditioning system?

Basically, a hybrid air conditioner system is a home cooling unit that utilizes both solar and electrical power to operate. The unit uses solar thermal energy as a buffer to prevent having to rely fully on electricity to refrigerate air. These systems usually utilize electricity for things like fans and control panel components, but the condensing unit uses solar energy instead, which drastically cuts the amount of power the system needs to keep your house cool. However, there are some newer generation hybrids that can be transitioned between either solar energy or electricity fully.

Are hybrid air conditioning systems efficient?

Not only can a hybrid AC keep your house just as cool as any other type of air conditioner, a hybrid AC is extremely efficient at doing so. As already mentioned, energy savings can be pretty great, so you will probably be able to keep your home just as cool as you would with any other type of AC for a smaller electrical cost. Some hybrid systems are fairly small, however. A lot of people who live in smaller homes will pick up a hybrid system because they want as much savings as possible on home cooling. But you can integrate more than one hybrid AC into an average-sized house.

How difficult is it to install a hybrid air conditioning system?

Hybrid air conditioners are not hard to install. Some of them are actually designed to be portable or designed like a window unit that you just plug in with the exception of connecting a few wires and possibly placing solar panels. The majority of these systems are ductless like a heat pump system, so there is no need to make connections to vents or existing ductwork during the installation process.
